About Me

Where It All Began

I had a an adult friend from church growing up who saw as family and she still holds a special place in my heart.  She was the one who introduced me to baking when I was about 10 years old.  I loved spending afternoons with her making box cakes. As I grew up, I would continue to experiment with baking, though I was too afraid to venture into making everything from scratch, I did play around with a few recipes. I never took it too seriously and just had fun with it.

It was not until I became an adult and pregnant with my first baby that I decided to venture into actually decorating a cake "professionally".  I actually sent out several requests for a cake I wanted for my baby shower, which I thought were simple, and was astounded at the quotes I received. I told myself, "how hard could it be?" I did my research, bought all the tools I needed and made the cake myself.  Even though I was still using box cakes, let me tell you, it was HARD! And I soon understood why I was quoted what I was quoted.  But something lit up inside me and I couldn't wait to try to make and decorate another cake.  I had my baby so my time was very limited. I decorated maybe 2 to 3 cakes per year.  Each time I felt I got better and better, but still, it was only a hobby.

After the birth of my second baby, everything changed. I had to leave behind my past career and I found myself aching to release my creative side somehow.  I made my son's third birthday cake and ventured even further (fondant). Then, for my daughter's first birthday is where I really went all out. I finally made everything from scratch and made the most complicated cake to date (for myself).  It turned out AMAZING and I was shocked that I was able to accomplish my vision.  That is when I decided to take this seriously and really dive deep and learn to do everything the professional way.

As I was on the lookout for something creative to bake for my mom and aunt for Mother's Day, I ran across a video of floral cupcakes arranged like a bouquet, and my  jaw dropped! I couldn't believe how realistic and gorgeous those cupcakes looked!  This fired something inside me and I spent hours (as much as two toddlers allow, mostly in the middle of the night LOL) researching and learning how to pipe these beauties.  I made a practice batch, which took FOREVER but I was so proud of how beautiful they turned out. I showed them to my hairdresser, and to my surprise, she offered to pay me to make a bouquet for her mom as well.  I was shocked. I did not think I was ready to sell yet, but she assured me that I was, and the rest is history.

I've only been selling for a few months, but the love has been there for years. I spend hours and hours perfecting recipes, learning new techniques and getting every detail right on every order.  I never thought I would love a different career path than the one I used to be in, but here I am.  And I am excited for everything else there is to learn and create.  There is something very special about being part of someone else's memories, whether it is through a service provided for a special event, or gorgeous cupcakes and cakes.
